Why two-part Epoxy Flooring vs Epoxy Paint or Epoxy Coating?
Epoxy flooring, other known as resinous flooring, is highly durable, customizable, sustainable, and decorative for any surface. The two-part commercial grade epoxy flooring originality and ability to transform any concrete surface into a beautiful, smooth base makes it perfect for indoors and outdoors.
One of the toughest and most durable finishes that you can apply to a garage floor today is an epoxy coating. Not only does it protect your garage floor, it can instantly transform your boring or ugly cement into a professional looking floor of beauty and function. Since the garage is fast becoming more than just a place where you park the car, the benefits of garage floor epoxy have quickly made it one of the top choices for garage flooring today.

Understanding the Process
An epoxy garage flooring is not paint. Paint for garage floors is a latex acrylic product. Some paints will have a small percentage of epoxy added to the mix to make it more durable than standard paint, but it is still paint. These are known as epoxy paints,1-part epoxy paint or epoxy coatings. Epoxy is an actual thermosetting resin that is applied as a coating. It is formed when you mix one-part epoxide resin with one-part polyamine hardener. The hardener acts as a catalyst and is what gives epoxy its strength.
Unlike paint that has to dry, epoxy actually cures. When the two parts are mixed, a chemical reaction is started which creates an exothermic curing process. This curing process produces polymer structures that are closely cross-linked giving epoxy its superior strength and durability. The end result is a coating that is much thicker than paint and bonds tenaciously to a properly prepared surface.
What are the benefits of a commercial grade Epoxy Flooring?
Epoxy floor coatings offer many advantages when compared to other traditional coatings applied over concrete:
- Hard-wearing durable surface resilient to impacts and continuous traffic.
- Epoxy that is applied to a floor with a depth of at least two millimeters.
- Fast Curing applied in one day and able to drive on it the next day.
- Easy to clean.
- Resists water, oil stains, brake fluid, anti-freeze, gasoline and other car chemicals.
- Creates a seamless surface that can last many years.
- Offers anti-slip additives.
- Withstands chipping.
- Withstands surface abrasions.
- Eye Appealing
- Anti-dusting topical sealer keeps your garage floor and contents cleaner than a traditional cement floor.
How is Epoxy Flooring Applied to Garage floors?
There is a 5-step process to install the Epoxy garage flooring system: Preparation of the floor is crucial for a successful coating.
- Diamond grinding. To fully prepare the floor, we grind the concrete before applying the basecoat. This prevents chipping and ensures the long-term success of your garage flooring project. Optional primer applied if moisture barrier required.
- Crack repair (if necessary). Repair any cracks in the concrete to lay the foundation for the epoxy flooring system.
- Apply 100% epoxy basecoat. After the original floor is fully prepared, the epoxy basecoat binds and seals with the concrete foundation.
- 100% broadcasting of decorative flakes or quartz. The finish is applied to create the beautiful finish of your choice.
- 100% polyaspartic clear top coat (low VOC option available). A strong and durable top layer is applied. Leaving a smooth finish. 100% polyurethane clear top coat is applied to the Metallic Floor System.
